Asystasia gangetica (Acanthaceae) Creeping Foxglove (e), isihobo (z) Fairly hardy, evergreen, vigorous, creeping groundcover with dark green leaves. Large fragrant, white Foxglove-like flowers are borne in summer and have purple streaks in the petals as nectar guides for birds and insects. Grows in sun or shade but flowers better in sunnier conditions. Can be grown in a hanging basket. Attracts many species of butterfly to the garden. The leaves can also be eaten as spinach. Size 15 to 20cm. Sowing : Plant seeds in summer in a rich seedling mixture and keep moist. Locality : Grahamstown. Date of harvest : June 2018.
