Description
Acaena novae-zelandiae (Rosaceae).? A ground-cover plant with ferny leaves. The plant will grow to over a meter in diameter and form a dense layer of foliage to about 10 cm high. In spring, marble sized, spherical flower heads of tiny green flowers emerge above the foliage on slender stalks. The rapidly develop long, fine, reddish spines as the seed matures. This burr dries to a yellowish or reddish brown and are retained for several months. Sowing : Sow seeds in summer. Locality : Ex Hort. Date of harvest : Aug 2014
