Description

Aloe barberae variegated (Aloaceae). Tree Aloe (e), Boomaalwyn (a), nKalane-enkulu (z). Large tree-like Aloe that can tolerate some frost and high rainfall. Grows well in Highveld gardens in sheltered positions but needs well-drained soil. Its pink flowers from April to June have copious nectar, which attracts sunbirds, and insects, which in turn attract insectivorous birds. This largest of all the Aloes is an ideal form plant in the garden, will grow in semi-shade and makes a good container plant. Because of its huge, robust size it is best planted in large gardens but for smaller gardens limit its size by planting in containers. Size up to 18m. S.A. No. 28. These plants are now between 30 and 50cm high in the open ground
