Description
Bulbine frutescens yellow. (Asphodelaceae). Stalked Bulbine (e), Rankkopieva (a). Hardy, vigorous, evergreen, spreading, drought resistant, perennial with succulent leaves and spikes of star-shaped, yellow flowers throughout the year. Plant in full sun or light shade in well-drained soil. Planted in masse they make a lovely show. They can also be used to help stabilise banks. Useful for planting in harsh conditions. Juice of the leaves has excellent healing properties and is ideal for relieving stings, burns and rashes. Size 30cm. Sowing : Seed can be sown throughout the year, but spring or early summer is the best time to do so. This will give the seedlings ample time to establish before winter. Seeds germinate rapidly, usually within one to two weeks. Seedlings grow fast and can be transplanted when they are at an easily manageable size. Plants often flower within their first year.
