Description

Dissotis princeps (Melastomataceae). Purple wild tibouchina (E); kalwerbossie (Afr.); sichobochobo, (Swazi). It is a soft, herbaceous shrub, 1.5 to 3 m tall. Young stems are angular and the whole plant is covered in short, bristly hairs. The leaves are large, egg-shaped to lance-shaped, and velvety, dark green above and paler to whitish underneath. Large purple flowers are produced in summer until autumn. Sowing : Sow seeds in spring or autumn in a well drained medium. Locality: Tzaneen. Date of harvest: Febr 2014
