Description
Gladiolus tristis – long spike many flowers. (Iridaceae) Aandblom (a). A tall, stately plant up to 1,5 m tall with two to four narrow, linear leaves (as tall as the inflorescence) that have thickened margins. The flowers become strongly fragrant in the evenings and are yellow to green, sometimes with dark stripes on the three upper lobes. This species grows in marshy areas and on stream banks. This specific plant had very dark flowers. Sowing: Seeds germinate readily within four to five weeks, and should be sown in late autumn, after cool weather has definitely set in.
