Description

Hesperantha coccinea (Iridaceae) Scarlet river lily (e), Rooirivierlelie (a), khahlana (ss). Very hardy, almost evergreen bulbous plant with bright green, strap-like leaves. It bears starry flowers varying from pink to scarlet that cluster at the tips of slender stems in late summer. Although it grows naturally in wet areas it does equally well in a normally irrigated garden in full sun or light shade. Makes good cut flowers and a beautiful garden plant. Size 30 to 60cm. Locality: Tzaneen. Date of harvest: Jan 2014
