Description
Khaya grandiflora (Meliaceae) Senegal Mahogany. It is a fast growing evergreen tree. It can grow to more than 30m in height, and has a girth of 1 ? 2m. It has a straight, robust and cylindrical trunk, with buttresses at the base. The wood is exstensively used as timber and have very high qualities of hard wood. Wolesale price per kg is also available. Sowing : When sown in seedbeds, the seeds germinate after 11-21 days. Germination is epigeal; the young seedlings grow very slowly and must be kept shaded at the beginning. Stock can be planted to the field when 60-90 cm high. Locality : Senegal.
