Description
Ruta graveolens (Rutaceae). Common Rue is a species of Ruta grown as a herb. It is native to the Balkan Peninsula. A perennial herb or small shrub with a strong smell. Grows erect up to 1 meter high with leaves that alternate, are twice or thrice divided and are 1.5 -2 cm long. The greenish yellow, tiny flowers with fringe petals are born in terminal clusters. Sowing : Late winter/late spring and late summer/autumn. Surface sow at 1.5mm (1/16in) deep in pots or trays containing good seed compost. Do not cover the seed as they need light for germination. Make sure the compost is moist but not wet and seal inside a polythene bag until germination which usually takes 5 to 21 days at 20C (68F). Locality : Ex Hort. Date of harvest : November 2014.
