It occurs in Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. It is a plant of up to about 1,5 m high with climbing or suberect shoots growing from an erect, more or less woody succulent stem arising from a tuberous rootstock (caudex).
Sowing instructions: Seed should be sown in spring or during summer, in a well-drained seedling mix, and need only be covered lightly with the sowing mix, clean coarse sand or milled bark. The trays should be kept moist in a warm but shaded position.
