Cyrtanthus obliquus (Giant Firelily). The glaucous evergreen leaves are twisted with make it together with the flower spike really striking. The flowers are pendulous, start with red and turn to yellow and green towards the tips. The flowers appear in late summer. It prefers a sunny position. Sowing : The seeds are sown just under the surface and kept moist using a fine rose. Germination takes place within three to four weeks and seedlings should remain in their seed trays for two growing seasons before being planted out into permanent containers at the beginning of their third season.
