Dioscorea hemicrypta (100 seeds)
Family: Dioscoreaceae
The caudex or basal stem of Dioscorea hemicrypta, a half subterranean tuber, becomes from 30 cm to 50 cm in diameter. There is often a mounded pattern of attractively shaped, coarsely ridged bulges on the surface, resembling relief maps or tortoise-shell.
Sowing instructions: Seed should be sown in a well-drained seedling mix, and need only be covered lightly with the sowing mix, clean coarse sand or milled bark to stop it from blowing away. The trays should be kept moist in a warm but shaded position.
Locality: Calitzdorp. Harvest: September 2024
