Elegia tectorum. It has an upright, symmetrical, tufted reed-like appearance with thin, dark green stems topped with dark brown flowers in slender compact spikes in autumn. It is usually about 1 m tall and may reach up to 1.5 m in height with a spread of up to 2-3 m. Sowing : Before sowing, the seed should be treated with smoke or soaked in a smoke-water solution. The seed should be sown during early autumn, when the nights are cool, between 10°C and 15°C, and the days are still warm, between 20°C and 30°C. After about three weeks the seed germinates and after another six to nine weeks can be pricked out. Locality: Betties Bay. Harvest: December 2023
