Common names: African Potato, African Stargrass, Sterblom.
Very hardy, deciduous, bulbous plant. The strap-like leaves are arranged in a triangular fashion and the flowers are like bright yellow stars rising through the center. Flowers from very early spring to midsummer. Remove the old flowering stalks to encourage flowering. Plant in full sun in well-drained, compost rich soil. A very important medicinal plant that is used extensively in both traditional and western medicine. Size 25 to 30cm.
