Succulent herb, with large, fleshy, blackish, tuberous roots; stems 1–3, simple, 10–30 cm high. Leaves sessile, obovate to oblanceolate, 2–6 x 1.5–4 cm, fleshy, apex apiculate, margin lightly crisped, dark green with paler veining, or often flushed purple, usually minutely puberulous; stipules glandular.
