Passiflora bogotensis
Family: Passifloraceae
It is a vigorous vine that can grow over 20 feet long, but you can prune it to any size you wish. Its bi-lobed leaves turn somewhat firm with age. They have a downy-soft texture. The flowers appear in large numbers throughout much of the year. The blooms start out as burgundy, mushroom-shaped buds. They open to reveal crisp white petals and a chartreuse ring of filaments, with burgundy pollen tubes suspended above them. The blooms self-pollinate easily, forming attractive, grape-sized fruits.
Sowing instructions: Stored seed should be soaked for 24 hours in warm water and germination time can be reduced if the seed is then mixed with the juice of a fresh passion fruit (of any species). Even so, it can take 12 months for stored seed to germinate. Place the seed tray in a shady position, maintaining a temperature around 19 – 24°c. Prick the seedlings out into individual containers as soon as they are large enough to handle and plant out when large enough.
