Pelargonium bowkeri (price per 5 seeds) It is a tuberous plant, one of the caudiciform Pelargonium species that stores water in a thick rootstock. It grows in parts of the eastern summer rainfall area of South Africa, viz. the Little Karoo, the Transkei and the Drakensberg. The habitat is often rocky grassland. The perennial rootstock, the underground part of the plant, is usually the only perennial component; the above-ground stems and leaves being deciduous, dying off in winter and resprouting in spring. Sowing : Seed should be sown in spring or during summer, in a well-drained seedling mix, and need only be covered lightly with the sowing mix, clean coarse sand or milled bark. The trays should be kept moist in a warm but shaded position. Locality: Butterworth. Harvest: October 2019
